Sylvia (RIP) died before I could try her place. But, lotsa people say that it has become overhyped. In that case, which soul food restaurant would you recommend that's not overrun by tourists?

I used to like the Pink Tea Cup in the village but it has since closed and opened back up near 34th St (I think). I'm not sure what it's like now, but perhaps someone else has an idea.

I would like to suggest Amy Ruth's on 116th and Lenox.

It's not that it is overrun - what isn't ? But the food is terrible and the service is usually terrible also. This has been the case since we have lived here.

We have been to Amy Ruth's and we were not SO impressed. Certainly it is better than Sylvia's.

Londel's was always quite good, unfortunately less so over the last year. Excellent service. The space was rebuilt and it is a disaster, lost a lot of ambience.

I liked the food at Mobay, service is terrible though.

Amy Ruth's is disgusting now. Spoonbread in Morningside heights is good.

M & G closed more than five years ago.
It was quite good, especially breakfast. Waitresses were great.
