Hi, I am new to this post but I need some advice. I'm a licensed social worker working as a social work assistant. I applied to this job because I wanted some experience working with people with a dual diagnosis and different mental illness and at the time I needed a job, so I felt this was a good opportunity to get some experience. Before that I worked with seniors for several years before acquiring my degree and I got my degree while working in the psych unit. It has been a good experience, but unfortunately there is no clinical time for me with the patients because of my job responsibilties. I feel like I am more of a clerk as oppose to an LMSW. I was wondering if I should leave, volunteer or seek a second job to get the experience that I need to move forward. I don't want the skills that I have acquired while working with seniors and in my internship to be forgotten and without the practice I feel that all I'm getting good at is paper pushing. I have notice when I am getting calls now that I have been faxing my resume out, I am getting question on being a social work assistant as an LMSW. If anyone can give some feedback or advice I will appreciate it. Thank you in advance.
