I'm moving to the UES from LA in June and don't know a single person who lives in New York. Any advice on meeting people or just living in the city? Is it easy to find a gym? How expensive is a monthly parking pass generally?

It's easy to find a gym but which one depends on your desired level of amenities and personal training options. There are now $20 a month places and those for over $200 a month.
Meeting people in the city is easy. How you go about doing it depends upon your interests.
Parking is expensive as others have stated here. A lot of people ditch the car and just do rentals for occasional trips. Most people don't drive -- within Manhattan -- to get to work or school.
You'll need to provide more details to get more precise answers, but there are many threads on people who have moved here with the very same questions. You may wish to take a look.
You could be paying $500 a month to park your car. Be Ready for it or dump the car.
This is spot on.
You don't need a car in NY like you do in LA. There are far more cabs and public transportation options. Unless you will be going out of the city a lot, there won't be much utility in you keeping the car.
Is there a reason why you're looking for parking near Columbia if you're planning on relocating to the Upper East Side?
Yeah, I'm going to school there. And I actually didn't even notice that typo until now. I am relocating to the Upper West Side.
