Supposedly, it's a tool emitting a pulsating noise that keeps pests away. Seems way too good to be true. Anyone ever tried this scam?

I have one. AT least I think it's what you are referring to. I plug it into an outlet, it makes a pulse noise every few seconds and a red light flashes. I don't know for sure if it works but I have never seen a mouse with it (knock on wood) and it gives me piece of mind so it was worth the $20 or whatever it was.

Used them in my vacation home in the woods. If country mice laughed at it, I can't imagine what a city mouse would do.

It sounds like a bunch of BS because a pulse oximeter is a medical device used for monitoring oxygen saturation of hemoglobin (AKA it measures how much oxygen you have in your blood). A mouse pulse oximeter is such a device designed for use in mice and I'm pretty sure it's a tool used for medical research.

To me, it sounds like someone jacked the fancy-sounding name and made up a way to market it to people who have pest problems.

edit: Google tells me there is something called an electronic pest control repeller which more closely fits the description of the device. Apparently, manufacturers of these devices settled with the Federal Trade Commission after the FTC complained that they were making unsubstantiated claims regarding the efficacy of the devices. To read more about this, go to this link:

http://www.ftc.gov/opa/2003/07/global.shtm

If you look at how the companies describe their products, you'll notice that they don't actually say the products will repel pests. Instead, they say they "have some kind of an effect on pests, and more particularly upon rodents." That's not exactly a ringing endorsement of their own product, and they are prevented from making stronger claims because they can't prove them.

ROTFL. A tiny little pulse oximeter on a mouse paw was exactly what I visualized when I saw the title, but I didn't know they actually existed. But it turns out they do, though they don't look the same (the mouse ones don't use a clip)
