Do any of you remember the ending scene of FAHRENHEIT 451 when all the people were walking through the woods muttering? They were memorizing the great books of the world to preserve them for future generations.

I am always reminded of that when I walk on E. 86th St. The only difference is that today's folks really are muttering...muttering nonsense.
"Honey I just got off the train and I'll see you in 5 minutes, but I'll call first before I get on the elevator," or worse "Hi it's me, 'sup? Naah, not much, same old same old. See yah!" (and then he dials another number.)

Brain Dead!

Dude this is worthy of another thread. I worry about this all the time. People don't realize it but we are allowing ourselves to become dumber...

I think NYC wants the city to be like a little liberal heaven like Seattle and sadly it is not realistic. I for some reason think Bad areas that are ran by Mob give the city some soul

Has gentrification been a good or bad thing for NYC?

Depends, entirely, on your perspective and how you identified with NYC before gentrification.
