I live in Toronto but grew up in the Grand Concourse/Kingsbridge Road/
Fordham Road area during the sixties. I loved to visit Poe Cottage and
played in Poe Park often. I'm going to be in New York soon and am feeling
nostalgic. I would love to see what is now located on the site of my
childhood home (a walk-up on the GC about a 15 minute walk from the park)
and salute the stuffed raven in the Cottage. Comments, please?

Reason: spelling
Poe Park was recently renovated, and there are plans to have a high tech visitors' center there. In the daytime, I'd say it's fine now. But you may be "shocked" to see the area now--it's changed a LOT--but seems to be in the early stages of a possible reversal.
Its fine during the day. Visiting the cottage is very interesting. I took a friend from Spain and she loved it. The caretaker was a grad student in Literature from Fordham.
Get out before the sun sets or the vampires will get you.
I used to hang out there in the early 1980's. If you used to as well share some moments you remember? and/or send me an email? pretty much a selected few used to spend a lot of time there so might even know you..lol
Agreed day time is gonna be just fine.
I would even venture to say that the night is PROBABLY not THAT bad either.
Now this were 1986-1995.....well then you would be better off going to Vietnam.
during the day but judging from the atmosphere even during the day on some corners, I would say don't visit at night
