If you lived in Zone A during Hurricane Sandy and weren't able to stay at you apartment for an extended period of time, have you received a rent reduction?

According to this article, landlords should be giving rent reductions for the days you were out: If Hurricane Sandy Forced You From Your Zone A Apartment, You're Entitled To A Rent Reduction: Gothamist

We are in Zone A and were not able to go home for over two weeks due to damage to our building. Rent is due tomorrow and we haven't received any sort of notice from our landlord regarding a deduction for the days we were out. I hate having to call the office and ask - I don't want to be seen as a "problem tenant". We sometimes receive a rent bill, sometimes don't, and of course this month we haven't received anything.

Every tenant I know in that area who had to move out got some type of rent adjustment or credit. I don't think calling the office about this type of issue will label you a "problem tenant". It was a hurricane after all.

I live in Zone A in Lower Manhattan and was without electricity, water, heat, elevator service, building intercom etc from Monday til Saturday. I remained in my apartment (no place else to go) but I live on the 15th floor and the lack of an elevator was a great difficulty because of my health. Should I be getting a rent reduction for the time that I was without those services?

Thanks for your thoughts.

I think the only reasonable approach is to grant those in a flooded, or mandatoriay evacuated area a month's rent exemption.

Perhaps case by case for those who might still be without power or services, a larger rent exemption.

Landlords can go to their insurance companies and FEMA for their losses, including rent losses.

I got mine Nov. 26, but then we lost nothing at all as a result of the storm so no complaints here, just gratitude.
