After New York loses its hype, where do you think the next hot city will be? Do you think it will be an already established city receiving lots of newfound attention or a burgeoning new city? Or maybe there are American cities that are currently in the midst of becoming a hot city?
I think that when New Yorkers would want to relocate there, that's what makes a HOT city.
Additionally:
Dallas, Houston, Atlanta, and Phoenix have seen tremendous growth over the past few years.
Many native NYers are moving to North Carolina and Upstate New York.
However, NY transplants who move to Florida or California tend to regret the move.
There was a funny piece in New York magazine awhile ago about this. They said Jersey City would be the next hot thing.
How would you characterize the region of NYC (including surrounding areas such as NJ e.g.) in terms of being a capital for live blues music? When I move to the Apple I will hopefully be able to experience the density of live blues venues on the east coast. However, I know that NYC is mainly a capital for jazz and that other areas of the country might be better for live blues venues. Live blues venues is what makes a metropolitan region 'HOT' for me, lol.
There are some blues clubs here, far as I know, as well as blues bands who play in certain clubs. I think BB King's in Times Square would qualify as one. . If you do a search on NY Magazine online, under nightlife, you will likely find them there. I think Johnny and Edgar Winter were playing at BB King's recently, or will be. Also the Village Voice online. I don't know if they post their ads online, but they have tons of pages of shows all over the city at all types of clubs. They also have a guide to nightlife etc online.
I'd imagine that the obvious places in the south and elsewhere would still be more of a blues capital--though I read a piece about little places down south that were the the real deal that are losing their customers, I guess due to bigger venues opening up.

What is your vote for the next HOT city?
HOT HOT HOT!!!!!!11
New Orleans, no brainer. I could get political and break down the BS, but its not worth it, whats done is done. Ten years New Orleans will blow up big time. Too bad it's nothing to be proud of because you can already see how that is gonna play out.
I think a true "hot city" all depends on a combination of factors that truly make it a "hot draw" to people. NYC is a huge attraction because of its sheer size and the fact that it has long been recognized as "the center of the world." I really don't see NYC slowing that much with it's "hot reputation," but, if I had to pick another city that would step up to the plate next here in the US, it would be, and in a large part has been, Atlanta. Atlanta is already a huge draw for a large portion of people "growing up, getting educated, and moving out" in the south. The city has recently built a huge downtown aquarium, totally revamped the west side of the city around Centennial Park (a park built for the 1996 olympics), new skyscrapers are booming, and have continued to boom, from Buckhead, midtown, and to downtown. The city is building the Atlantic Center neighborhood--a brand new neighborhood built on abandoned railroad tracks in the northwestern edge of midtown--a live/work/play area that is still growing. The airport is the worlds' busiest. Traffic is AWFUL, but people keep moving there. It's crazy. The metro population is around 5.2 million and is projected to reach just shy of 7 million by 2020. Jobs, educated people, and money keeps pouring into the city and surrounding area.
