I'm not exactly sure how it works for some apartments, but I've seen apartments where it is required that you're income be 40x (or some other number) times the rent. The thing is I'll be going to college after coming off of active duty military. One of the benefits of that is I'll be getting paid a living allowance while enrolled in school. Since I will be going to school in NY that amount will be $2830 a month. I doubt that would be considered income since that isn't exactly coming out of a job. I'll probably be working to earn more in addition to what I'm getting but it won't be enough to cover this "40x" thing going on.
