And it's only going to get higher...and we keep running into the same rationalization of "hey look at Europe...you guys got it easy" or "hey you don't need a car and you have access to anywhere in the best city in the world!!"
This situation always, inevitably, feels helpless...
The MTA raises fares whenever it wants. There is never a shortage of town hall meetings and widespread public outrage at the very hint of the base fare being raged. And as expected, the MTA still pushes forward and raises the fares.
This is the 3rd fare raise in the past 3 years. Where is all of our money going to? What's the purpose of holding these town hall meetings/discussions, if the MTA has cart blanche to do whatever it likes?
You don't get charged the $1 fee if you buy a SingleRide ticket.
You also don't get charged the $1 fee if you buy the MetroCard at a deli, supermarket, etc (basically anywhere that's not directly affiliated with the MTA).

$2.75 ... but what about the "$1.00 per new Metrocard fee."
That would be $3.75 for the privilege of one ride.
I give up.
checkmatechamp is correct. It's a "ticket", not a regular Metrocard that can be replenished. It would be pretty crappy if they charged an added $1 fee for a single ride. I imagine metrocards being wiped out much more often now...drives up the added income for MTA for riders having to buy a new card more often. I can't tell you how many times I've refilled cards and then suddenly they get wiped out. The card can't be read at all.

That's good.
Is there a listing of delis, supermarkets, etc., that sell MetroCards? I live in Nassau and I don't know where to find them except to go to the Nice Bus terminal in Hempstead maybe. I always buy mine at vending machines in NYC.

I haven't seen them sold in stores for quite some time now. I've had to buy mine at the subway.

The problem I have is with the pay per ride Metrocards where it is supposed to give you a free transfer between bus and subway. Sometimes it doesn't and charges another fare. Then you have to fill out a form and mail the card in with the form to get the refund. So in that case, it's not YOUR fault you need to buy a new MetroCard.
