I was just looking at Stuyvesant Town's webpage. Now I remember when they were bought out from Met Life people were hooting and hollering about how it was the end of the world for the people at Stuy Town. I didn't really pay that much attention to it, because in the back of my mind I thought basically its an overglorified PJ and that the rents couldn't possibly go up by that much.

Now that the new company is running the place they seem to be charging $3,000 a month for a 1br (Stuyvesant Town). How is that possible? I mean I can understand that the apartment has more room than your average place, and I'm sure that they put in all new appliances and cabinets. However, how can anyone justify paying $3,000 a month to live in project style housing? Couldn't you get the same type of apartment for less money outside of Stuy Town? What am I missing here?

Didnt the new owners also announce through the media that they wanted to keep the place affordable?

Yeah I remember reading that. At first I think they were planning on just leveling the whole place, but then they had to agree not to do that. Then they said that they would try to keep Stuy Town the same as it was.

Looks like that wasn't exactly the case though.

Those "project-style" apartments are very spacious and well built.

$3,000......Eastside of Manhattan, y'all!!!!!!

There's a very good reason why Bloomy didn't step in to save Stuy Town from market forces!!!!!!

I don't think the market-rate apartments in Sty Town were much cheaper even before the new owners took over. That's Manhattan - crap apartments for a lot of money.

I could have swore that the prices were in the $2,000 range prior to the new owners taking over the complex. Even by Manhattan standards $3,000 seems excessive for a 1br in Stuy Town.

Someone's always willing to pay. Capitalism at its finest and worst all at once. Stuy Town is full of stabilized rents so you now the new owners are going to go for the jugular with the new rents.

Save your $3000 a month. You will be absolutely miserable in NYC. I cant even actually believe people here actually PAY to be miserable.

Huh? I honestly don't know that many really miserable people in the area. Are you sure you aren't the one with the problem?

I'm pretty sure there are girls in the tri-state area who would have sex with you but you obviously aim too high. You are simply not good enough for the type of people you wish to attract.

Go on to the Midwest where you belong, you will find plenty of inbred hicks who would ********* without hesitation.
lol angry, no?
