Wow, that's cool! I gotta go back to the BX and see how things have changed... I can't even imagine walking around a South Bronx neighborhood filled with Paisas! LOL
Yes Philly stress..there are something like 800K Nuyricans in NYC and dropping precipitously, and you will find 2 or even 10 using drugs in public! Crazy huh! You can find the same with every group in NYC...so what's your point?
The culture is dead for the better part of 30 years....NYC's future is less black, less PR, whites will probably be flat at this point as they have basically been hollowed out, more Asian and significantly more Hispanic (Mexican/South American). Jews aren't going anywhere...but they are in a class of their own.
The Mexican population has exploded in this city my man... Back in 2002, it's true that most of the Mexican population was very isolated to areas like Sunset Park, Elmurst, Jackson Heights, Woodside, Astoria, Corona, parts of Bushwick along Wyckoff and parts of Ridgewood... That's no longer the case... All the former Puerto Rican and Dominican areas in Brooklyn Queens and Manhattan are becoming more Mexican Ecuadorian and less Puerto Rican/Dominican... In terms of the Bronx i'd say that's the one area bucking the trend in terms of becoming more Mexican/Ecuadorian... It's why I always say the Bronx has always been a little slower getting to the party than the other boroughs (which I don't necessarily think is a bad thing but sobro will fight me to the death on this issue)... I'd say the Bronx is more of a mix becoming more Dominican and in part Mexican/Ecuadorian and less Black/White/Puerto Rican...
Nope the Bronx is becoming more Mexican too. What you see with Dominicans is just a shift, but Mexicans are expanding rapidly. I think they are going to be #1 Latino group in city in twenty years which is crazy.
That isn't that crazy seeing as they represent something like 7 out of 10 Hispanics in this country. You have to wonder why they haven't had a bigger presence in this city before..it is long overdue.

Mexicans were non existent along the NE corridor all the way up until the mid 1990s. This could be explained by the fact that they found work opportunities in other regions of the country. I don't know what's behind the recent arrival. It's funny because as of now the Puerto Ricans are making their presence known in CFL at a rapid rate while the Mexican one is waning.

Laws got stricter in other places. NYC has a lot of restaurant and hospitality jobs and Mexicans have quickly filled that labor sector...
