Hi, I am sure this has been asked before but I have a few questions.
i am from Brooklyn and looking to buy a home/townhome in S.I..
1. what are good/decent areas? Schools don't matter.
2. I see townhomes under 300k. Are townhomes any good? Noise issues ? What are the property taxes and HOA fee on a hypothetical 300k home/town home?
3. what water/sewer bills should I expect?
4. Average heating bills?
5. What area has more Russian businesses?

Here's an SI safety map, which is mostly my opinions on areas of SI.

As far as Russians go, there are a lot in Great Kills, Rossville, Midland Beach, and South Beach. How many businesses are owned by Russians I can't say (and of course, keep in mind that Midland/South Beach were hit hard by hurricane Sandy).

There are some communities that have HOA fees that cover snow removal, landscaping, garbage removal, etc. These are usually on private streets which are not city's responsibility as far as garbage pickup, snow plowing and street repairs. If community is not managed well and has bad service providers, it could get really bad.
