If NYCHA residents rent is $150 per month based upon income, what w/b the justification for charging $150 per month for a parking spot, intended for the use of residents?
Obviously, there is a logic to the reasoning.

Gosh, you are an absolute NAZI!

Has freedom and the right of the individual have no meaning for you?
I think it should be $175 to $200 per month, as that's what the market rate for a garage or driveway is in my outerborough neighborhood. I don't understand why we need to subsidize their apartments AND their parking. That's too much.

Maybe because driving is a luxury that shouldn't be subsidized? Maybe because those parking lots could be put to better use (House more people, commercial space = jobs)?
The monthly fee should be above market rate in Manhattan and anywhere within a 30 minute subway commute to Midtown. That's most developments right there.

They should park for free on the street like the rest of the people in NY who can't afford $200 a month for a garage or driveway. If they don't like moving their car every other day and competing for a spot, TOUGH LUCK.

If its above market rate to park at ANY parking lot, no one will pay for it and you make no income from it, so what's the point?. Its why the city would rather take those lots in places like Chelsea and lease them out to luxury housing developers. A new building has already been built and occupied on a former NYCHA lot.

If someone is paying only $150 a month in rent, if they are charged $150 for parking they still come out ahead of MOST New Yorkers in terms of expenses paid out.

I agree, I would like it above market rate so that it's not utilized at all. Then develop on it. Parking lot fees are pennies compared to the income mixed use apartment buildings would pull. Combine that with the fact there will be new jobs, vibrancy, restored grid in some places, and more income diversity. It s a win-win. This is only the beginning too. There is so much land, the NYCHA can make a ton if it s done right. We can also desegregate these housing projects to some extent too.
Remove ALL parking lots in NYCHA projects in Manhattan or 30m commute to Midtown. Develop on them all. Should be priority #1 for removal.
How can somebody living in nycha really be
coming out ahead of most new yorkers?
