The next Henry Ford has already emigrated...to BANGLADESH.
I would say the current Henry Ford is Sergey Brin an immigrant who co-founded Google, one of the most influential companies in the world. If you want someone in the automotive industry, there's Elon Musk, an immigrant who founded Paypal, Space X and Tesla.
Go to schools like Stanford, MIT and CalTech and you'll see how much progress and innovation immigrants and their children are bringing to this country, today.
Wasn't there a US Patent official who, in 1908, said that all that could be invented had been invented, and there was no point in welcoming further innovation.
Kefir King, from his name, sounds like he's of Arabic descent (kefir is something like Middle Eastern yogurt? I don't know), but he talks like an 80 year old WASP whose family has lived in NY for 400 years and doesn't want newcomers to come in. That is an entirely valid (if selfish) point of view. No one wants competition; no one wants disruption; no one wants change. But without those phenomena, we become like plants in terrariums: stagnant and sterile.
Or yet another dead/dying industrial city, like Detroit, Buffalo, among others.
The other boroughs would have had a total real estate collapse, that means more burned down buildings and a lot more crime. A city like NYC in this forum can't function without it being crowded. Its the busiiness center of the US . Every country's business city is crowded, Tokyo, Japan, London, UK, Paris, France, Hong Kong in Chin, Sao Paulo in Brazil, etc.
New York City is a major gateway to the US, and as a seaport/airport, a big parts of its business is being open to the other world. Even its banks are heavily involved in Import/Export business.
And you have few New Yorkers who have lived in this area family wise for generations. Of those that were born here, most have at least one parent from another country or another state. New York has always been a come and go town.
Come to think of it, the education sector in NY is huge, and much of that is at least partially dependent upon people coming here from all around the world to study. The tourism sector, another big part of the economy, is dependent upon people coming here from around the world to visit and to do business.
Even its banks are heavily involved in Import/Export business.
So then without a sea of immigrants, the U.S. taxpayers woudn't have had to bail out the banks to the tune of trillions so that they can show positive bottom lines?
You do realize don't you that your argument BLAMES all those brilliant past immigrants for the chaotic mess the banks got us in...and keeps us in?

I am interested in the effect immigration has on the future, while so many seem to think what happened in the past is far more important in shaping immigration policy FOR THE FUTURE.
Post after post after post compains about the high rents in New York. Will that situation be improved by importing another million or two New Yorkers? Should we build projects in Central Park to handle the overflow. Will the BANKS hire them all or should they all become real estate brokers?

Most illegals are in low wage jobs. I doubt Sergey Brin was an illegal immigrant.
I also think they shouldn't be compared to people that violate our laws.
I would say the net benefit has been positive. 40% of Fortune 500 companies were founded by immigrants or their children. From Alexander Graham Bell (Scotland) and Charles Pfizer (Germany) to Sergey Brin (co-founder of Google) and Jerry Yang (co-founder of Yahoo), immigrants and their children have contributed immensely to this country's success.
We already legally immigrate close to 1 million yearly. I am sure 1 person our country population will be more than innovative enough. & if you believe our current population is not innovative how will you know which person outside our country is?
Even more so why are you making that the reason to to legalize 30million + more people? There are only a limited amount of jobs & natural resources in this country.
