Moving from SF to NYC (New York, Hudson: apartment, how much, neighborhoods)

Hello!

I'm currently going to move with my Father to New York in the beginning of March. My Father is originally from New York, so adjusting for him won't be a problem.

We're currently looking for a 2-bedroom apartment in an area that is not in Harlem or basically anywhere Uptown. What is so frustrating is that it is quite impossible to do! My Dad doesn't want to spend anymore than $1750 a month on rent!

He neither wants to live anywhere that isn't in Manhattan. I don't know what to do because $1750 for a 2-bedroom cannot be done. Or can it? Does anyone have any helpful tips of some neighborhoods out there?

Maybe take a look at Hudson Heights, but around there it is $1,500 for a 1 bedroom. The neighborhood is north of the GWB and west of Broadway.

Either you will need to double your budget to live in Manhattan below 96th street or you will need to not live in Manhattan (and still need substantially more). $1750 might get a you a 2 bedroom in a place like Kew Gardens, Queens about 30 minutes from Manhattan. I'm sure he doesn't WANT to pay any more than $1750 for a two bedroom in Manhattan and, hey, I don't WANT to pay almost $1400 for a studio in Brooklyn but that's how it goes. Rents aren't going to change just to meet your budget.

Just so you know, you cannot even get a studio in a desirable part of Manhattan for $1750 now. Better adjust your expectations.

Wait a minute! You are moving in the beginning of March?!?! As in "two weeks from now"? And you have not looked at how much it costs to live here? Seriously, do some research and FAST!
