Bailey is like a 2 mile entrance ramp to the Deegan (with traffic lights) between Fordham and Van Cortlandt Park.

I, King Grosvenor , get an eery feeling when coming off of the Deegan at times. What is that area east of Broadway? It always looks quiet, but too quiet.

I always liked the intersection of Sedgwick/Van Cortlandt Avenue/Stevenson Place by the stores, reservoir and entrance to Ft Independence Park, like a little village but Im sure the quality of life is marred by all the traffic for the Deegan and points east.

You know, rlrl, that's a great way to describe Bailey, especially through VCV, above the Greek Orthodox church, because prevailing speeds seem to increase on the roadway because of a lack of a gridded traffic pattern, not to mention people trying to avoid congestion on Broadway. By nature, though, Bailey is an alternative to a stopped Deegan, starting in the South Bronx.

There is NYCHA property on Bailey, but the only issues I have ever heard were within the complex, though given th differences on Bailey and Albany Crescent from areas west of The Deegan in terms of neighborhood feel, I can see how that area of Kingsbridge could have more of a crime issue. Not VCV, though, because it's stable and majority co-op owners, but there is a pocket of Bailey that I would not be surprised to see an outbreak of crime through Kingsbridge, partially because of its relative isolation.

i remember about 15 years ago a man from Alabama was shot at that bodega on Bailey outside the project. but even there i never felt unsafe while biking

yes, one could ride up here all the way from Yankee Stadium via Sedgwick into Bailey as a bypass to the Deegan

i remember as a teenager way back in the late 70's riding on the yellow bus to go to ballgames on the Deegan I used to think that the tenements on Bailey and say Albany Crescent(they were viewable from the bus) were crumbling (like they were in the areas below Fordham Rd) just because they looked kind of old. I remember asking my maternal grandmother what that area was like and she said "no its not the slums it's just an old area". as i got to know this area better and since i moved here i could see that it was still a decent place

but the view from the H Hudson Pkwy is totally different from what you see from the Deegan. once you get below 240th street on the H Hudson it looks like Atlanta's Buckhead section with all the high rises

If there is a project on Bailey that explains everything.I didn't know there was one ,which is why I was perplexed. What is it's name ?
