Maybe call 311?

I'm surprised a pharmacy doesn't know.

I don't have a clue but you need to get a new pharmacy since your current one is as clueless as I am.

the NYC recycle website says not to place a sharps container in the trash but if you mark the container that there are home sharps in there then you can put it in your household trash. makes no sense. unless the container is recyclable then you can put it in the bin.

I'm sure the Department of Health accepts them. Also, many hospitals take them as a public service. Why not call your nearest one and speak to their community relations department?

your doctors office likely has sharps disposal. Bring it to your doctor next time you see them.

311 told me to tape it up on top and label it "home sharps" and put it in the trash. i left it on the floor of the laundry room where the super picks up the trash and other things left by tenants for disposal

Any hospital or nursing home will accept them for disposal as required by law. You can place it out as 311 directed but don't be surprised if your garbage men leave it behind.
