7 train is reliable, probably 90% of the time. There are times when some stops along the 7 line get closed off due to construction, which only occurs on the weekends (usually).
extremely reliable. Its very rare its goes into a grinding halt.
-You got your once in a while weekend repairs which is annoying
-delays are somewhat common but local trains will run while there is no express is usually the result
-related to the above...as a result trains are packed like a sardine.
Not sure which will be your reg stop....if there are delays in the tunnel or the manhattan side, many riders go into queensboro bridge and take the N train into manhattan. As an alternative you can walk a few blocks to court square to take the E/M.
I think too that it is a very reliable train line except when there are weekend service disruptions.
That makes absolutely no sense. You want battle? Try the 4,5,6 or the 1,2,3
being a lifelong NYer, I've taken virtually all the lines throughout nyc (only one left is the one on staten island). The 7 as a daily is pretty tough.
green line is pretty bad too. Its very packed. The manhattan riders of that line isn't on that train for long. So that leaves the Bronx which wasn't too bad in my experience. I can't really comment on the bk side of the green line as I rarely taken that during rush hour.
red line isn't so awful in my experience. Perhaps there are a few lines serving west side, so congestion isn't unbearable. I've taken the red to the Bronx...also not too bad except for a some really deep tunnels (annoying elevators). Same as green line, I have limited experience on the bk side.
overall, the green & purple 7 is one of the most packed. The shorter ride on the green throughout manhattan is a shorter ride, so its less unbearable. The issue with the green is some station is seemingly more hotter than most other stations in the summer.
Can any one tell me how reliable is the 7 train? I am looking to move to an area that only has the 7 train, however, I am hesitant because if it does not run I can't get to work.
Thanks,
Are you comuting to Manhattan or LIC? If Manhattan, look at areas where you can take the #7 but also have other transportation options just in case. Woodside has the #7 and LIRR. Roosevelt Ave./74th has the #7 and E/F/R. Flushing has the #7 and LIRR.

If you're taking the 7 local it's not bad at all, but if you're going past 74th then yeah I can see it being uncomfortable especially in the rush hours. But it's still a lot better that the other ones. The E & F trains from Forest Hills are a complete disaster at rush hour. Easily twice as bad as the 7
^^Also parts of LIC is close to 23 Ely which has the E/M. Queensboro Plaza also has 7 & N/W aka the yellow line.
