I've got a job offer in NYC, and the company is doing pre-employment background check on me. When filling out the background check form, for the previous address section, I could not recall the address where I lived prior to my current address, so I filled in my aunt's family address in another state where all my bank statements and insurance statements goes.
My potential employer said that they will do Social Security Trace Number Trace (Address Locator) and Criminal Conviction History Search on me. What if they found that the "previous address" I provided is not the address I lived prior to my current address?
It's not "what if" but when. What happens WHEN they discover that you gave them a phony prior address.
They will probably no longer be a potential employer.
How could you possibly "forget" your last address?Do you think anyone is going to buy that?
I sometimes do live with my aunt's family, it's like a permanent address to me. I don't think that I lie to my employer. Is this difference very significant?
Dude relax.. I dont see the problem its a simple background check, stop making mountains out of mudholes... This is a complete non issue and you are a nervous nelly, I wouldnt even think twice of this unless this was a police or cia job or something of that nature... The guy posting before must just be looking for laughs getting you to panic. You filled your address in as your previous mailing address? whats the big deal? 99% this wont even come up, !% if does and you explain and its all good.
Thank you so much! You eased my mind.. I was getting nervous for the whole weekend...

Yeah I only see this being an issue if you purposely used a different address to try to cover up something in your past that you didn't want them to find, because chances are they will find out whatever it is anyway. If there is nothing to find, I wouldn't worry.
doubt it would be an issue but the only reason it might make someone suspicious is trying to evade a criminal court jurisdiction check. like you were convicted in county A so you list county B so the court runner will search county B where there will be no record. ive known people like that.
You are allowed to have a "mailing address" and a "residential address" so no big deal there. Either way I think anything tied to your name will show up.
