Hello, I am a filmmaker making a documentary about education in New York. PS 220 Mott Haven Village School is a school that interests me, because it was founded by a progressive educator as an alternative to big schools, but hasn't met school standards. I'd like to show how, from what I've read, there seems to be some good things going on there but there are obviously still many obstacles.
I am wondering how safe it would be for a 20-something white woman to film in this Mott Haven school and possibly in people's homes for three weeks. One issue is keeping equipment safe. Should I always take a cab there and home? Should I always go with someone? Or would these be overreactions?
Also, if anyone knows of an uptown NY school that overall may have problems but has perhaps one great teacher, please let me know!
