We were going to go to Herald Square this morning for some shopping at Penney's, Macy's, Jack's and my favorite $1 pizza.
But I am wary of a large power outage and I am a bit too claustophobic to risk getting trapped in a subway car. So I guess it will be a short walk to FAIRWAY instead.
Con Ed is barely holding it's own as of yesterday and it will be even hotter today.

NEW YORK – As sweltering heat and humidity continued to
broil New Yorkers for a fifth straight day, electric usage in Con Edison’s
service area fell just short of an all-time peak, reaching 13,161 megawatts (MW) at 5 p.m. today. The all-time electric peak record
of 13,189 MW was set on July 22, 2011.
The company continued to urge customers to use energy wisely as New Yorkers
in the city’s five boroughs and Westchester cope with sizzling heat and
stifling humidity.
Demand response programs, which pay large customers to cut back on power
usage during heat waves, were credited with reducing peak demand today by
approximately 400 MW.
Meanwhile, Con Edison crews continue to work tirelessly in the intense heat
conditions to restore customers impacted by scattered power outages.As of 6
p.m. today, the company had restored electric service to approximately 11,500 customers since the heat wave began earlier in the week.
Day by day the effects of a protracted heat wave are cumulative for an electric company as more and more equipment overheats and cuts out.
Has anyone heard anything about voltage reductions?
I haven't heard about voltage reductions from Con Ed, but this week it's been taking my 24,000 BTU Friedrich unit a good hour at 65 degrees to cool down our 1 bedroom apt. Granted, we're on the top floor and it's been a heck of a week, but it used to take only 10 minutes at 68 degrees.

I'm sure you'll get much better food at Fairway than some $1 pizza deal. I just hope they cleaned up their mouse/rat problem.

Why not do this at Roosevelt Field Mall? They have JCP, Macy's, Nordstrom and pizza.

From KK's posts on the Citibike thread I think he/she is somewhere on the UES. It's an even longer hike to Garden City and the risk of being stuck somewhere on the LIRR.
