NYC’s 911 operators sweat it out when computer system crashes and burns - NYPOST.com
Perhaps Bloomberg should address real problems like this first, instead of worrying bout petty hippy nonsense.

"Intergraph keeps telling us, “Shut your computer down and reboot. It’ll just take a minute.”

How many lives can you lose in a minute?

Sometimes we get it wrong, too. Once the address an operator thought she heard was for the wrong borough. A baby wasn’t breathing. The baby died."

"Starting pay for a 911 operator is about $26,000. "

In a high cost place like NYC, it's pretty awful that people tasked with saving lives are getting paid this little. Surely it affects the quality of candidates they attract.

At least they didn't outsource it to India (not that the Unions would let them anyway).

Thats only starting salary. I know a 311 operator who lives a decent life.

If cops & firefighters are paid well (relatively speaking) in NYC, then these folks should too.
