Arriba, Arriba on 3rd Ave, between 82 and 83rd street was excellent. However, I wouldn't be able to say how authentic it is. It seemed pretty authentic to me.
Lots of little Mexican restaurants and bakeries on E 116th up in Spanish Harlem and near the subway stop off of E103rd. These offer standard, typical authentic food you would find in Mexico. Not sheeshy type places but more standard fare like tortas, huaraches, sopes, tacos, etc. I lived in Mexico City for 5 yrs and this is where I go for my fix.

[thanks for the info guerita i plan to check some out when i go up there next year
I like Guerita's areas are a good start. There are also places in Corona, Queens where many Mexican immigrants live. My family lives in the Bronx and I actually have a cousin who has a restaurant on Third avenue/149th street. Sorry I don't know the exact location but I like it alot. For Manhattan, I'd say try Centrico but Paladar has more diverse Latin dishes not only mexican, the Chef/owner of both is from El Paso, TX and has great dishes. Hope this helps! Tell us if you find new places or tried these places out.
