Hi, all

So, this has been asked and asked again. But I don't think recently, so wanted to check in on any recent updates. I'm pursuing an opportunity in Stamford (and there is a company shuttle to get from train to building 1 mile away). I live in UES now, and considering moving to midtown just to inch closer. I'd be moving anyway to get a bigger apartment, so may as well move to a better location. (yes, could move to CT, but my boyfriend is for the moment tied to NYC, so living in CT doesn't work for him. So, one of us is going to be commuting. While CT may be cheaper, I'm willing to pay for weekends at home in the City.)

I think the trains are generally okay. I tried it in the morning, but I haven't had the opportunity to try it in the evening. Just wanted to check in to see how crowded the trains are. Most commuter I believe live in midtown or UES - so I'm hoping when people say it's crowded, it's still not 6 train crowded. Also, what are the rush hour when the trains are MOST crowded? Maybe I can avoid that one hour. I imagine if rush hour spans a long time, than by nature / math people are spread out more and crowding wouldn't be as much of an issue.

This opportunity if pans out could be a great career move. So, I'm pretty into it. I just want to gather all the facts so if I get the opportunity to make a decision to take it or not, I can make an informed decision. (Also, I feel like most things in life won't be perfect, and will have pros and cons. It's not always about avoiding all the cons, but it's sometimes about what cons you're signing up for and make peace with it.)

Any other insights on the commute, etc. welcomed.

Stamford is practically the 6th borough, the commute is no problem

From the upper east side you can save yourself some time by getting the train at 125th street instead of Grand Central.

I had thought about that... But I heard about the crowding issue and figure Grand Central being the first stop is less crowded.

It's also the reason why I'm considering moving to Midtown. I'm in the 70s, and on the local, it'll still take me a minute to get to 125th. But definitely the route to go if for whatever reasons I end up not moving.

125th street will most likely be standing room only.

Not all trains departing GCT into Connecticut reach all the way to New Haven. I'd shoot for one of these trains. Compare Stamford vs New Haven schedules to get an idea of which trains don't continue on to New Haven.
