We've had 20 years of non-Democratic machine mayors, and the city is vastly better off for it. Even Bloomberg, who's as liberal as any Democrat, was not beholden to the Democratic Party, and it's controlling interests. Now the Democratic machine is poised to take over, and are likely to run the city back into the ground.
I agree, he was not beholding to the democratic party and its controlling interests. He was to the zillionaires, "investors" (aka as speculators) and wall street type "gentlemen". Essentially, folk like him.
Would the next mayor do better? Don't know. I am disappointed with the current candidates. NYC deserves better.

Bloomberg wasn't beholden to anyone. He's literally one of the wealthiest men in the world.
He can tell anyone in this world to go kiss his ass and he'd be no worse off for it.

What successful people like bloomberg hate is failing at a given task and being laughed at for it. He did what he had to do for the City to succeed.

Bloombergs job is to make the pie bigger. It's not to make sure how that pie is distributed.
So long as the pie gets bigger it's then up to each individual/ family to grab a piece of that pie. Many residents of NYC are like children and want someone t hold their hand and lead them to their piece of the pie. The truth is that life doesn't work like that.

Only small-minded people remember Bloomberg most for the soda issue.

I am hoping the next mayor bans the tourist helicopters like Guiliani did once and for all. They are a nuicence for the quality of life for all NY residents. Noise Pollution. Not to mention dangerous, havent we had several accidents with tourist helicopters already, have we not learned anything

Please can we say goodbye to Ray Kelley, please.. s & F must be banned as well.

You should be careful what you wish for. You can't cater to the dreck of society like De Blasio does. Just doesn't work. NYC will be a ****hole again in 10 years if he is elected.

Bloomberg is quite possibly the best mayor of any American city- ever.

As an administrator, which should be the number one qualification for any elected office (except leadership for the president in times of war), I would agree that there has never been anyone better than Bloomberg

I'm just happy the city council overrode Bloomberg's veto!

New York City Council overrides Mayor Bloomberg's veto on NYPD oversight | 7online.com

The second time in two weeks Bloomberg was rebuked. What a way to end your run as mayor, Bloomberg. You really shouldn't have overturned term limits in 2008. You could have gone out on a better note.

So you're happy that the mayor's office has been stripped of control of the police department?

Do you now also want the office to be stripped of the Department of Education?

Indeed, and happy because of the judge's ruling, and the city council's new laws, it will be a lot easier to sue cops and the NYPD itself. Totally wonderful news!
