I am a 21 year old college student studying Russian and I am looking for a way to further immerse myself in the language. I spent this past summer studying in Russia and am in my second year of study. I am wondering if it would be feasible for me to rent an apartment in Brighton Beach (Brooklyn) next summer and live/work there. Is the Russian community welcoming to people who are enthusiastic about speaking Russian with them, or would I face some obstacles while trying to immerse myself in the community?
I have been to Brighton Beach before and so I know that it is definitely possible to speak a lot of Russian here, but I'm just not sure what it would be like to actually live here and try to meet people, go out, etc.
Why don't you look for an apartment that would come with Russian roommates? Then you'd always hear it at home. I know you're not looking to move now, but there are a few places like that on craigslist. like this one $600 Room available in Bensonhurst
It never occurred to me to look for some Russian roommates, great idea.
