Hey guys
We are in NYC right now and we would love to go to Tom's diner. is there a subway train or bus that could take us from Grand Central Station to that place? It is near Columbia University according to Google maps.
Also we want to get back to Central Park after having breakfast there. Do you guys think it's a good place to eat? Thanks all !! We love your city!
You can get there on the 1 train - I would walk there from Grand Central across 42nd. It probably is not worth getting the D at Bryant Park and changing for the 1 at 59th. But you could do that if you did not want to walk.
The top of Central Park is 110th Street. a few blocks down and east of the diner.
The food is not great. At all.
I would definitely opt for Community, basically across and a few doors up.
On your way to Central Park, you should also check out the cathedral on Amsterdam.
BE AWARE that on weekends there are always some trains re-routed for track work. (Not all lines are affected, and sometimes the work is only being done in one of the outer boroughs and doesn't affect Manhattan trains at all.) I am not sure if Google maps transit directions reflects track work changes. You can check the MTA weekender to see any planned subway service changes. www.mta.info | The Weekender
Also, if you can, download an MTA subway map app onto your phone. That way when you're in the subway and wondering if you are going the right way, you can look at your phone instead of trying to find a posted map.
Hope these little transit hints help. Enjoy your stay.
Thank you all. We'll skip the diner. We are loving our visit. It was very crowded yesterday (Saturday) but we will go back into the city tomorrow (Monday). We hope to get on the Staten Island Ferry, 9/11 memorial and Central Park.
