Forget how it came to pass but Queens by any stretch should have been part of Long Island, you just have to look at any map.

I can understand why some people may feel that way about the eastern edges of Queens, but western Queens is closer to Manhattan (specifically Midtown) than most of Brooklyn is.
Queens is part of Long Island. Brooklyn is not. Culturally speaking.
Not Really. Queens is extremely the diverse. The western and central neighborhoods feel nothing like Long Island. Neither do most of the southern neighborhoods. Only the outer lying eastern neighborhoods have something of a Long Island feel.
