Poor mom and pops...it's getting harder and harder for them to find wetbacks that they can pay HALF the minimum wage to while paying none of their social security and Medicare. Poor dears.
They should relocate back to Tijuana, Odessa, Calcutta, Seoul, Beijing, Baghdad and San Juan where they can make it big time.
How sad it will be to see them all board the next tramp steamer home.

beijing? you know beijing real estate is more expensive than nyc right?

New York is too expensive. Why is the minimum wage so low. 7.15 an hour is poverty wage.

Except it has been shown that that doesn't happen, or not nearly to the extent that people like to claim it will.

So onto your next BS talking point I guess....

How many minimum wage jobs can't be either automated out of existence, if their enough incentive, or just would not be worth having performed?

I thumbnailed the numbers on how much a fast food joint could probably save yearly in labor expense, if the minimum wage went up to $15, and they cut back their average shift from 10 people to 3 (automating the rest.) It came to something like $600,000. That's a lot of cash flow to fund automation.

Even the ultra liberal population of Sweden saw sense and didn't allow a minimum wage increase that would have equaled $25/hr (USD).

Whatever laudable goals the left/liberals are trying to push here they need to act carefully.

Then the obvious solution is to find yourself employment that pays *MORE* than the minimum wage. Problem solved.

If however that is the best you can do, then a careful examination of your life is in order with a view to making changes is in order.

I agree with this. Governor Cuomo is pro Wall Street and is not a very populist/progressive type of Democrat compared to our new Mayor De Blasio.

Haven't you been to stores like CVS where many cashiers are placed by checkout machines? We're already in that direction without a minimum wage increase.

You still need people to stock supplies, to clean the floors, to come by and fix machines, etc. But it does certainly change the nature of the job, and of the remaining positions.

I think fast food places would still need more than 3 people per shift. Someone has to cook the food and someone would need to bring it to the customer. They could get rid of most of the cashiers, but someone a few of them would be needed to maintain the order machines.
