I want to report animal cruelty I witnessed in my neighborhood. Basically there is someone who is purposely letting their dogs attack stray cats. And I have reason to believe this has been done several times. I went online and was told to contact 311. I don't have any proof so I wonder if anything will be done? Am I better off contacting aspca and telling them that there are too many stray cats in my area and maybe they can come take them away? I guess that is better than them being killed by someone's dog. what to do?

If I am not mistaken, I believe the ASPCA will refer you to 311 in the city, as 311 is the clearinghouse for information. I would definitely report it, because allowing a dog to hunt a cat is cruel behavior, and shows that the owner has a violent dog that is not under their control, since I highly doubt said abuse is occurring at the end of a leash or in an enclosed yard. Definitely report the issue.

You may also contact Animal Care and Control of NYC to see if the organization can provide help in getting attention to the problem, or resources to assist with curtailing the abuse. http://www.nycacc.org.htm

Report a crime in progress, including animal cruelty - 911. This is your best bet.

Report a crime you saw - 311.

You will have better luck with the groups, but you did not mention where you are.

Stop in at Petco, look for cages, talk to the volunteers.

Or post your general location, and/or research groups in your location. If I know where you are I will make recommendations. There are probably people working with street kitties in your area.

CACC cannot help, unless by chance you reach someone who takes an interest personally.

Nobody will remove the cats. The CACC does not trap or remove street cats.

Come to think of it. Talk to the guy on the sidewalk at the corner of 81st and Broadway. Cannot miss him, west side of Broadway. He is often there on weekends.
