Those guys are talking about Hip Hop music. The other elements that make up Hip Hop culture as a whole have varied origins. Breaking or Breakdancing started in the Bronx but styles like Locking,Popping and Bay Area strutting came from California. New Yorkers saw these Cali dancers on Soul Train and added them to NY Hip Hop.

Example:

The Twilight Players

As far as graffiti. I've heard that grafitti started in Philly.

Modern graffiti actually began in Philadelphia in the early sixties, when Cornbread and Cool Earl scrawled their names all over the city. By the late sixties, it was flourishing in Washington Heights, Brooklyn, and the Bronx.

Those dance styles I mentioned and graffiti are a part of Hip Hop culture. Hip Hop isn't just rapping and Djing.

well the thread states where hip hop was started. answer is simple as it gets the bronx. Even though queens claims they did a while back.

Yes, while a part of the culture (and no one is denying that) the OP asked specifically about the music.
