I always thought someone could make a fortune opening a good restaurant on Roosevelt Island. On the other hand, I don't know how much of a hassle it would be to bring in supplies.
Are there places to eat on the Queens side in Long Island City if one crosses the Roosevelt Island Bridge?
There's a Jamaican place called Melting Pot Cuisine right on the corner of 36th Ave and Vernon once you cross the bridge. Take a 2-3 minute drive south on Vernon and you'll hit the heart of LIC's dining options starting on 46th Ave all the way down to Borden Ave.
I went with my friend yesterday to Roosevelt Island and found that there are quite few more places to eat there than in the past although we just opted for a Subway sandwich as in the middle of the afternoon. Also we went to the southern end (which I had never been to before) and saw the Roosevelt Memorial which I believe isn't that old (as I don't think it existed the last time I was on Roosevelt Island which was quite a while ago). In general it was a beautiful day and it is quite pleasant to walk around the island and see the views of Manhattan and Queens (and a bit of Brooklyn).
nope ,we live in bay terrace in queens. it is a real pain to do with just the lirr. we have to first go to penn station and then schlep around uptown.
i don't want to go there that bad.
If you have a car, all you have to do is park in Jamaica Estates by the F train (179th St.). That train takes you directly to Roosevelt Island in under 30 minutes. No need to use the LIRR.
Google maps has the boundaries completely wrong. For example, according to google, Queens Plaza North is part of Astoria, which is ridiculous. The Queens Bridge projects are in LIC not Astoria. All the hotels around 39th ave that have gone up recently are because LIC was rezoned for them, not Astoria. Google also doesn't consider Ditmars to be part of Astoria which is even more absurd. I could go on and on. The old official boundary was actually Broadway, but nowadays, 36th ave is considered the boundary between the two.
