As nostalgic as I am towards all the night clubs that I used to frequent in the 90's the Roseland Ballroom is one I will not miss. That place was a dump. I've seen dozens of bands play there and went to several raves there.
The bathrooms were nasty. The funny thing about the men's bathroom were the stalls that were facing each other. It was a little weird looking at someone while you were peeing.
That basement area was like a dungeon. It was always uncomfortably hot in there. Even in the winter. It took forever to get a drink at the bars.
I could deal with all the filth if the place had any charm but it didn't.
Irving plaza on the other hand is a cool venue. If that place were to close down then that would be a tragedy.
Anyone remember Jazzy Jay and Afrika Bambatta at the Roseland ? What about REDALERT at the LQ a few blocks away ?
