Hi guys! I saw an apt that I really fell in love with right on CPW with a view of the park of the living room windows. The cross street is 102th which is close to B and C train on 103th. I want to ask you guys how is that area? From what I have heard is that area is still mixed, when you head east for a block there is a huge projects which I would like to avoid walking through at night if I want to go to some of the markets or restaurants on Broadway or Amsterdam.
Unfortunately due to my work, I get home around midnight quite often. Do you guys think it would be a good idea for a young single girl to live there?
Thanks for any insights!!!

You'll need to be careful coming home at midnight, but I would say that about any neighborhood. The area can look very dark and deserted at night. It's only a block from the subway to your apartment.
You can, for the most part avoid the projects, there's no reason to go through them. I must say, it's not bad in the daytime.
If I were you, I would use 100st or 97th st to go west toward Columbus and Broadway. There's a shopping area from 100st Columbus down to 97th. Whole foods, Modells, Duane reade, Starbucks.

Ive put so many people in that area young/transplants/families. You will be fine and if avoiding the projects is something you really want to do, some clients im still friends with say they walk down from 106st and central park west to 100st and make a right towards columbus, etc.

One girl i put on 103 and central park west come to my parties often and comes home way past midnight and doesnt have a problem taking the train and walking home. One of the only complaints i get from a couple i put on manhattan ave and 104st is that when they invite their friends/families for the first time to visit them they get scared and ask a bunch of questions cause they have no knowledge of the area and see projects and automatically assume the worst.

There was a woman attacked recently on 105 BUT that also happens everywhere. Use street smarts and you will be fine.
