By monitoring social media for postings by Islamists saying, "I'm going to go out and kill people in the name of Jihad!" By infiltrating mosques, and listening for people saying, "We need to encourage our young men to go off to engage in violent Jihad in Iraq, Syria, Somalia, Nigeria, Afghanistan." By then monitoring and arresting these people before they kill.
But no, the police unit engaging in monitoring the Muslim community for these violent jihadis has been disbanded. Apparently, it's prejudicial to think that, if most violent terror attacks are commited by Muslim jihadists, members of the Muslim community, recruited and encouraged by other Muslim jihadists, often in mosques where Muslim jihadists gather, we should be monitoring mosques and other Muslim institutions. After all, just because someone posts photos of himself on social media attired as a Muslim jihadist brandishing a weapon, with jihadists slogans glorifying the killing of non-Muslims, doesn't mean he's at any higher risk of committing a terrorist attack than is your average citizen.
You will never stop all the crazy people. Maybe if our society was like the ones in Brave New World or 1984. Even if you can perfect a program to 100% monitor social media for crazy thoughts, there will come a guy who just does a heinous act without talking about it to anyone.

I'm sure there are probably hundreds of Arabic, Pashto and Urdu, etc. speaking intelligence analysts at the federal level doing exactly this at any given time. Just because the NYPD isn't doing it, or supposedly isn't doing it, doesn't mean it's not getting done.
Just do a search for those keywords on any job site like Indeed.com and you will see they are hiring hundreds more (and this is certainly not a new phenomenon).
Looks like a Muslim radical struck a NYPD officer directly on the head with an axe. Then hit another officer in the back. Broad daylight in the middle of queens.
This clown mayor put himself available for sale more than any politician I've ever seen. What's one of the absolute first things he did? Disbanded an NYPD unit that monitored and gathered intelligence on potential Muslim radicals. Supposedly this guys social media was littered with jihadist talk - something that surely would have been picked up by a counter intelligence unit.
Be careful out there everyone. This Muslim terrorism problem will only get worse. And something is going to have to give - either we live with terrorist attacks like this on our streets, or we take some drastic measures that may not be easy.
At least the PC called the attack a act of terror. He's done more than our current Potus. Potus stills calls the Ft Hood massacre "Workplace Violence" SMH.
This is the first time I've ever heard about it. It's certainly not making national news.
