The whole neighborhood was talking about this the last few days.Really horrible, especially on Christmas morning.Glad the jerk is off the streets.

Some people have said that they live in the same block so he might have at least seen her at times prior to the attack.

These type of attacks along with that octogenarian being murdered in her apartment really can shock the area. It reminds me of 1990-1992 in Norwood.

I have seen these things happening on trains couple of times where perps approach women in such ways. I once put a perp on my phone camera and was prepared to document his criminality but he left prematurely.

In 1990 there were over 6,000 major crimes in the area. So far this year only about 1,000 in a precinct of 120,000 so I don't think anyone is worried too much about the 1990's.With some fluctuations, the crime rate has gone down virtually every year since those days.

There was a time there wasn't even a pct in your area. That's how low crime was in that area.http://www.nyc.gov/html/nypd/downloa...s/cs049pct.pdf

Well, maybe but it must have been over 60 years ago because right now the crime rate is the lowest it has been since the early 1960's. I am sure there are lots of areas that had very little crime back in the 40's and 50's. What does that have to do with today ? Unfortunately,we live in a different world now and there is more crime everywhere than back then.

I doubt if there was ever a time of no precinct. The are was probably part of other precincts, right ?

There was no 49 pct in the 60''s? I think it was built in the early 80's?? Not 100% sure.

They built a new station in the late 60's but the precinct was already existent then. They just got a new building and moved into it.I think the old one was on Williamsbridge Rd but not sure. I'll check it out.

At a recent community board meeting the 49th's community liaison officer said the crime rate was the lowest since '63 so he must have gotten his numbers from somewhere.

According to a friend of mine who's a old timer Chief. The 47 and 43 pct had larger boundaries. They actually covered your area. People from the South Bronx would transfer to the "Camps" 43,47, 45, 52, and 50Pcts to regain their sanity. I just texted him to see when the actual 4-9 was constructed and recognized. http://nypdangels.com/a_bit_of_history/index.php, 1985 was when the 4-9 was started.
