According to wikipedia his mother is African American and his father is Puerto Rican.
So if Obama is Black certainly so is Rangel. I don't know what Rangel's father looked like but many Puerto Ricans are Black or mixed race.
Rangel might identify himself as Black Hispanic. However, he is not "Black" like African Americans who no admixture. I doubt he considers himself White Hispanic so that Obama analogy doesn't fit this narrative.

For instance, Nation of Islam was founded by a white guy, and kills off their own leaders. Anyone who subscribes to their "religion" is bats--- crazy. To equate that with a Jew whose religion has been established for 5000~ years and their religion has been handed down from generation to generation is absurd.
Cults are new religions, and a degree of insanity is traditionally applied to the term. Rightly so, in the age of science and reason.

No it's not. Tradition has no bearing on relevancy. Group think is what makes it historically a cult. Christianity, Judaism, Islam and more. They are passed down ways of thinking. Christmas as we celebrate is pagan, and many continue to believe that Christ was born on December 25th. There is enough evidence to support that this is not true. So, in a nation where norms and traditions are required (to make some sense of the world and why we behave the way we do) traditions (cults) are born.

And if that is so it is an untenable situation to have a mayoral administration flub their way through in possibly exaggerating that divide with poor human relations. Arguably we have a 'rookie' one but it is necessary that they learn fast. Each time bumbling occurs it nails another door shut that has to be opened again with crowbars because of the attitudes floating around in the city.
And regarding 'all religions are cults'...(probably more for another thread)...hope that's not on the agenda anywhere near the city administration's goals!...;-)...

Which is why many African Americans are leaving NYC. It's cheaper and a higher quality of life for them to return to the South where their grandparents originated.
