Hi All,

Since my last post here where i mentioned that i'm looking for a place to rent for when i move later this year. I have spent countless hrs going through Trulia and Zillow and the likes. Everything i like is either too expensive or not in a nice area. Ideally i want to live in a nice area in downtown Brooklyn but everything there is around $2200-2500 which makes me think it would be silly to spend soo much money on rent.

So I've started looking at NJ I really like the Hoboken, Weehawken and Union City areas. Some apartments even come with amazing views of NYC, so i may even get my dream of having river views..

To that end, can someone please tell me what its like living in NJ. I don't have much info regarding the area everything i know has come from watching an episode or two of Jersey Shore There seem to be some new builds in the Weehawken area which gives you alot more bang for your buck.

Also if you work in NY and live in NJ how would you file your taxes?

Thanks ever so much!

Cheers,

k.

You would get better information posting this on the NJ forum.

As for the taxes, you will do what the other quarter million people do who live in NJ and work in the city.

File a non-resident NY state income tax return, and file a NJ state resident tax return. NY tax far exceeds NJ tax, so when you get to the end of the NJ form and see the section called "credit for tax paid to other jurisdictions", you will fill that out with the NY information and owe Jersey nothing.

Sorry can't help you -- very little experience with NJ.

However, I have friends who've moved to both Jersey City and Weehawken and have been raving about it.

There's also the "Ironbound" district of Newark.

Geez don't be so harsh. I think it's entirely appropriate in a NEW YORK CITY thread to ask about living in New Jersey -- particularly among New Yorkers who've BTDT.

Thanks all!

I posted here because i guess i wanted to check if there are people going through or have gone through similar experiences. what made you decide. I would only move to NJ due to the $$$ I'll be saving. Otherwise the plan was to live in NY.

I didn't think I was being "harsh"! Geez. It's a valid suggestion. And no, it's not inappropriate to ask here, but then why didn't you or any other person respond to him if you've got the info?

Keeping the question in both places can't hurt! And everyone can relate to the saving $$$ issue.

If you read my earlier response above, you'd see that I HAD no information ...
