Recently I just got approved by a two bedroom apartment from NYCHA, but they only provide me a very limited choices to choose from. At first I was hoping I can get one in Queens, but the Queens developments that they gave me are all in Far Rockaway, which is toooooo far from my work. So I am thinking I have to go with the manhattan apartments, which are:

King Towers(W.115st St & Fifth Ave.)
Polo Grounds Towers(W.155th St. & Frederick Douglas)
Rangel(W. 159th St. & Harlem River Dr.)
St. Nicholas( W. 127th St. & Adam Clayton Pow.)

Can anyone give me some suggestions about these four developments? which one is more safe? If they are all too horrible, should I wait for some better ones? Thanks alot~!!!

One last question, is parking convenient around those area?

If i were you I would request to live in the following developments in lower manhattan, LAGUARDIA PROJECTS, BARUCJ PROJECTS, SMITH PROJECTS OR VLADECKS PROJECYS. Those are safe and the parking is easy to find. Also has great schools in walking distance if you have kids to go to school too and great playgrounds and near police stations and hospitals.

I agree, I don't live in the pj's but I've been in or around all of these developments plenty of times and I've never had a problem. Have you looked at any of the other forums on public housing though? I find it odd/crazy that Smith, Laguardia and Vladecks get horrible reviews....a lot of people say they're very dangerous!?

Of those choices you list, King is the best.

344 e. 28 is a good spot. It's one of the better nycha developments in manhattan. believe me, you could do much worse.

actually as a harlem resident, king and taft are some of the worst projects in harlem. also i wouldn't recommend the polo grounds either, horrible. out of all mentioned st nicholas would be the way to go. i would apply for johnson if i were applying for NYCHA. close to the 6 train, 2, and 3 trains, shopping, with pathmark within walking distance, and 125th with even more transportation. george washington is ok, but i found them to be too small.
