I read about this school in stories from Humans of New York. I was quite touched by the commitments and dedications of the teaching staff led by the principal Ms. Lopez to inspiring the local students in Bronxville to do better and succeed despite the harsh and toxic environment that those students are exposed day to day.
Does anyone have first hand knowledge of this school and can attest that the stories featured in the HNY represent the overall learning&teaching environment there? If things truly operate the way as described, it is a promising model of transformative education that will have widespread impact on the youngsters from such poverty-strucken and crime-ridden communities in NYC and throughout the country. Teaching by example will provide the very much needed sparks to ignite the changes from within, and what these teachers are doing is truly commendable.
I will not expect that schools like MHBA will generate many academically elite students, but the positive influence that these teachers will bring upon these students and ppl around them are further reaching than simple academic eliteness.

I was taken aback too by OP's mixing up Bronxville and Brownsville. A true WTF moment until I opened up the link. I know nothing about the school, except that it sounds good for these kids.
But thanks for alerting me to that Website, Humans of New York, which I didn't know about. It's truly great and I'm going to spend some time on it.

What the f OP... LOL. Bronxville is like 90% white with median family income of $200k.
LOL,there are tens of worlds of difference between Bronxville and Brownsville.
Bronxville is one of the most beautiful and most affluent suburbs in the country. Brownsville is the complete opposite.
Regardless of the mixup, Mr. bluedog, as a teacher, what do you think about MHBA and its staff teachers? Do you think it stands out and will have the much needed impact to lift those born-to-be-doomed kids from the poverty and crime trap? I am so surprised that nobody gave a chicken poop about such a wonderful and caring educational initiative here on this forum.
