Hi guys, My friend and I (we're 2 guys) will be starting our residency at Woodhull this summer. We were looking around and it seemed like living in Williamsburg would allow us to have quick access to the hospital and to Manhattan by subway. How's the area around Marcy and Hewes? I've seen some nice places from Grand St to Stagg, and Union to Leonard as well as on the western side of Marcy Ave. We won't have a car so we would really like to be a walkable distance from the subway line, preferably the JMZ and not the G. If not for this area, any other recommandations? Thanks

Around Marcy and Hewes should be fine. Area north of the train line is mostly Puerto Rican and hipsters. South of it is pretty much all Hasidic Jew, and I'm going to assume they won't rent to you in there own neighborhood.

Another good option would be Ridgewood, which is further out on the M. It'll be your best bet when looking for a blend of affordability and safety. I live off the Forest ave stop, and I know people here that work at Woodhull, so might work out for you if okay being further away from Manhattan.

I guess you can also consider Bushwick or Bed Stuy, but for me personally, I'd rather not. They'll be more crime, and I'm not sure you'll find much of a bargain to make it worth it. At least compared to Ridgewood. I don't think you'll find many bargains in Williamsburg these days.

The Glendale area near the M Fresh Pond Road station is also a good area.

We are willing to pay up to 3,400$/month, if the landlord's willing. We'll be making about 60k each. We've never looked at Ridgewood so we'll check it out, but it does seem much further from Manhattan than we'd like.
