I own a 1 bdr condo in Brooklyn that doesn't have a garage or parking space on premises. Someone told me that in NYC, every condo is supposed to have parking on premises according to the City law, otherwise, that project doesn't comply with City regulations and the City will not approve that construction (by law). I would really like to know if it's true.
There are parking minimums in some parts of the city, but not all (some parts have parking maximums), and they wouldn't apply to existing construction.

The only place in Brooklyn that doesn't have parking minimums is downtown Brooklyn, but the parking minimums can be and sometimes are waived for new developments elsewhere. Also, buildings under a certain number of units (I think 9?) are exempt from parking minimums.
