Interesting read. I have a friend who lives and owns in North shore just a couple of blocks from St George. He cant wait until they open the Ferris wheel so that his property value can jump up. I think the only area that will gentrify is the immediate area around St George in North Shore. The area by ferry is like 20 minute ride to Lower Manhattan financial and civic center which is not that bad. I can see it attract those who are looking for homes to own or rent but on the affordable side compared to over priced Manhattan, West and Central Brooklyn, Western Queens and soon South Bronx prices. If the area gentrifies, I hope DOT can operate more ferry service during rush hour. Like a ferry every quarter of an hour to meet the demand of those who live in St George.

First of all, it's a 25 minute ride, and that's only from terminal to terminal. It doesn't count any of the walking involved.
Second of all, you do realize rush hour service is already every 15 minutes, right? Honestly, I still think 15 minute headways suck, but at least it's tolerable. It's the off-peak headways that really get me.

I haven't been to staten Island in nearly 8 years. How would I know. And again I haven't used the ferry in 8 years. To me when I last used the ferry during rush hour it seemed longer than 15 minutes for the ferry to dock and the other to depart. Even when. Looking across the harbor from Brooklyn Heights I generally a rotation of 3 ferries and not 4. Assuming it's every 20 minutes a ferry is dispatched of the dock. Looks like the city should expand ferry service to a ferry trip for every ten minutes during rush hour.
