i was at nysc on a weekday/evening (last thu. actually) at union square, a block away from the park (did legs...because friends don't let friends skip leg day). it was semi-crowded but not too bad. the machines (treadmill etc.) were almost 100% empty from when i came in to when i walked out. i came in at about 6:50 pm or so and left at 8:30 pm. the locker room is clean and a bit small. you get lots of natural light on the 2nd floor filled with free weights and smith machines.

i was also at a nysc at 38th st, few blocks from macys. went there during rush hour on a workday and the gym was, again, only semi-crowded. just about 10 or so ppl. on the floor. i was in the basement where the weights are - hairy men work out there. it was dark but not crowded. the locker room is nice and big.

know what i really miss? the nysc right on 34th st. and broadway across from victoria's secret and macys. i first started going to the gym in 2005 (before that, i only did lots of walking outdoors) and it was a very nice cute little gym. you could go outside and workout and see the nyc skyline, or even from your treadmill. it was on fl. 25. i still remember. oops, 25 or 24. they had a sign on that building advertising it. it shut down a few years back (2009?). every single time you would see either female or male models because the fashion district was nearby. it was always busy. i really liked it as my fav because of its central location. oh well.

My membership is paid for by my insurance company through Silver Sneakers, so maybe my towel rights are broad?

Although I am seeing the occasional "Due to a shortage we ask that every member takes only 1 towel." I do not. They are tiny towels and after a wrapping for a sauna, one towel is not clean enough to use after a shower or two.
I generally take 3 towels and return one unused.
