Hi everyone (:
I'm planning to rent a room in Bayside, NY (this's the address: Moderator cut: personal information)
I'm a student in LIU Post and according to google map, it'll take me 1hr and 20min to get to LIU by bus.
Is it difficult to go by bus? I'll use the bus or train only the first month, then I'll get a car.
I might go home late sometimes so I'm worried about the safety of the neighborhood. Is it safe to live there?

I'm a foreigner student and this's my first time in NY. I'm excited to live in NY but news make me a little scared of getting involved in crimes

Could you please answer my questions? I appreciate your help

In queens it shouldnt be very impossible to travel by bus, but with many connecting buses the odds increase for missing and delays.

Is dorming too expensive? I would recommend dorming instead.

It's a far place to commute from. Why Bayside of all places? LIU Post has a shuttle service from the Hickville LIRR station:

Student Transportation - Long Island University

If on campus dorming is not an option, I would suggest living somewhere where you can take the LIRR to Hicksville. From Queens, that would probably be either Woodside or Jamaica-Sutphin. There's more to do in Woodside, which is also close to Astoria but Sutphin will be cheaper.

Alternatively, Hicksville is served by a number of Long Island bus routes that pass the LIRR station. Check out the Long Island NICE bus system map and see if there are neighborhoods from where you can take bus directly:

Bayside is a nice area but would not recommend if for commuting to LIU.

Can I apply into the campus dorming if I have a company who's not a student in the school?

Thank you so much everyone (:

+1 What others have written.

Bayside is in Queens, a borough of New York City. New Youk City has very good public transportation.

LIU Post is in Nassau County... the suburbs. Nassau has horrible public transportation. You do NOT want to rely on any kid of bus travel in Nassau County. The Long Island Railroad is a decent option, especially since there is a school run shuttle service from a LIRR station.

If you must live in Queens, pick a location which is near a LIRR station (Woodside is a good option, as has been mentioned). Another option is to find a location that is a short subway ride to the Woodside station (Woodside has both LIRR and subway connections).

Yep, Bayside is very safe and Bell Blvd. is a decent place for college kids to enjoy some nightlife.

I live in Bayside and it honestly can't get safer.. LOL I think you just take the N20 bus and you're at LIU. N20 is easily accessible as it passes through Northern Blvd, don't think you need to take any train, just one bus

Bayside is a safe area.
Take the bus for now but I suggest getting that car ASAP. It would save you a lot of time everyday.
Don't bother taking the LIRR. Waste of money.
