One might think that in a population as small as the Chilean diaspora in the New York area — about 15,000 residents were either born in Chile or are of Chilean descent, according to the most recent census estimates — the more prominent members would be aware of one another. The vast majority immigrated before 2003.
But they are geographically diffuse. Unlike some immigrant groups, like the Chinese in Flushing, Queens, or Dominicans in the Washington Heights section of Manhattan, New York’s Chileans have no large concentrations in any one place.
There aren't much Chileans in NYC and their community is most likely small. The Chileans I came across in NYC were not immigrants but expats. Their aren't much South Americans that from Southern portions of continent due to it being more wealthier than northern portions which squabble in poverty like Ecuador, Guyana, Colombia and now Venezuela which have higher rates of immigration . A special nod for Bolivia. I came across a Chilean woman, she had transplant transplant like attitude, very educated.
The only one I know moved here with his wife. He met her while she was in Chile for an extended period of time. She's from the US.
