All these moving devices are dangerous on nyc streets were hundred and thousand of people are walking on each day. You want a scooter or hover board or even skateboard go to a park don't use them on a city sidewalk. I will happily sue if any of these bratty kids run me over on them.
My friend s a physical therapist and over the past six months, he has seen un unprecedented increase in youngsters coming into his office because of injuries sustained as a result of riding on hover boards.
Why on earth are these called hoverboards if they don't hover??
The usual reason. Stupid reporters making stuff up because the name seems cool. See Hacker for a prime example of a term reporters hijacked from the community that created it. Hint, they were computer science students, not criminals.
You can hurt yourself and suffer head trauma by tripping over your own feet!
The responses against this are ridiculous. These boards are probably 'safer' than skateboards since you can stop on your own, I LOL'd at the people saying they're dangerous.
I agree with the poster that said this is just another extortion technique.
Oh well, as a college student I have other things I can buy with 2-500$ Haha!

Oh please.
Hooverboards are no more dangerous than bicycles and you see them being ridden on sidewalks, against traffic, and otherwise recklessly. Persons operating motor vehicles while texting and or otherwise involved with their phones are an even larger danger and yet it goes on constantly.
Those "mommie/daddy" brigades are also a threat with their huge prams and or strollers; why not crack down upon them as well?

I'd love to have sidewalks free of all things with wheels!
I've been knocked into too many times will walking by razors, strollers etc.

As long as they don't hurt random people on the street I'm all for them hurting themselves as many times as they wish. I'm not worried about the people on them but about the people they run into.
Riding like a maniac the wrong way down a one-way street on a Citibike however, totally okay!
