LENGTHY BACKSTORY
The situation is that after originally agreeing to my getting a dog, even being happy at the prospect, my roommate has changed his mind in a very sudden and long email yesterday. His name is on the lease, not mine, so I must comply. However, this is a rescue that has already had all his operations and healthcare paid for by me and that is getting delivered to NYC from his foster him three states away, this upcoming Sunday. This has been in the offing since the third week of October with my RM's approval.

He now claims that we're not allowed pet on the lease and that all the dogs in the building (we're talking dozens) were grandfathered in. Could be true, could be BS. I don't really want to get into lease arguments with him.

I would still be involved and visit often (4-5 times week) to walk him and play with him so he doesn't forget me.) He just can't live with me for the month of December and I'm looking for the next best option. I will be settled at my new place January 1st and take him then, hopefully with a new uncle/aunt in his rolodex of fans.

He's an absolute sweetheart. Really, this is not one of those rescues with behavioural issues. Just a 4-month white lab right out of a Sears catalogue who doesn't deserve this.

I don't even know if this is a thing that's done, but you never know.

REQUEST
I know plenty of people foster pets temporarily for rescue organizations and am wondering how to be put in contact with some who might be in Manhattan, have references, and might be open to this.

And that's the story!

Any leads? (I would be eternally grateful.)

Contact the Mayor's Alliance, they may have advice but they will probably recommend boarding. It's not the worst option in the world for the short term.

Advice - if you are looking for a foster on your own take absolutely nothing, nothing at all, on faith. Check things out thoroughly and carefully. Get references.
