One block East, sadly. We feel like we're right in the middle of a border war with the truly gorgeous park, well-maintained community garden, hills overlooking the Hudson one block west, and trash, busted up sidewalks, and macho assholiery the next block east of us.

The changes are happening rapidly; even within our building within the past year the demographic has visibly shifted toward more youthful, unmarried professionals on this side of Broadway, and more families with the means to do so moving in on the west.

There is major community concern over the bar and nightclub situation here, with a lot of suspicion that people are being paid off for permits. Petitions and protest don't work.

On NYE 24 bars (even more than in the East Village) in our precinct were given permit to serve booze until 8AM, even a couple of clubs that have experienced recent violence, and bars located in/underneath residential buildings.

Even so, if we weren't renters, we would stick it out. It's just not worth it to us to rent here anymore.

The Western side of Broadway was always the nicer parts of Washington heights and Inwood. They never got fully "Engulfed"
